About Common Ground Athens

Who We Are

Common Ground Athens is a community resource center dedicated to connecting groups and individuals working for positive social change. Since our founding in 2003, we have served as a hub for collaboration, education, and community building in Athens, Georgia.

Our center provides a welcoming space where diverse community members come together to share resources, develop skills, and work toward common goals. We believe that lasting change happens when people from different backgrounds unite around shared values of respect, inclusion, and community empowerment.

Today, Common Ground continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of our community while staying true to our founding principles of collaboration, accessibility, and grassroots empowerment.

Our Community: Athens, Georgia

Athens, Georgia is a vibrant college town with a rich history of social activism, artistic expression, and community engagement. Home to the University of Georgia, Athens combines small-town charm with cultural sophistication.

Our community faces real challenges, including poverty, inequality, and social division. But Athens also has tremendous strengths: engaged citizens, creative problem-solvers, and a deep commitment to making our home a better place for everyone.

Common Ground Athens exists to harness these strengths, connecting people and organizations working toward a more just, equitable, and compassionate community. Working together with Athens-Clarke County Government and numerous local partners, we strive to create positive change.
